Would You Rather Be Right or Be Loved?

Letting go of the wrongness is going to be difficult because it is going against […] what your ego is telling you. It is going to be difficult because it will hurt your pride. It is going to be difficult because this will not be dominating, possessing. You will not be more powerful through possessing the other. This will destroy your ego - that's why it's going to be difficult. - Osho

Not so long ago, someone messaged me and asked me to expand on the above quote from Osho. Letting go of the wrongness is a letting go of the need to be right. I ask you, my reader to consider this … would you rather be right or would you rather be loved? Even pushing your "rightness" onto someone can be wrong but that is neither here nor there. To say I am right and you are wrong is so black and white in a world which is filled with grey. It's the spaces in between where we can find acceptance, both of ourselves and of others, and agree to disagree with Grace and still love the other(s) in our lives.

As for the ego ... we actually need our ego in order to operate in the world, so it's not an oxymoron to say the goal is to have a healthy relationship with the ego. It is a balance between the ego and the heart and a relationship with the Self which is cultivated and nutured with intention. This takes practice and based upon your reaction or response to a situation or the other(s) in your life, you will begin to recognize who is holding the reigns of your interactions - the ego (aka your reaction)? Or your heart (aka your response)? With practice you will see and feel the difference but sometimes, when the ego gets really sneaky and is beginning to feel threatened because you are making heartfelt choices, the voice of the ego can be like a whisper. So listen and observe.

Dominating and possessing is about superiority, a shake foundation that a relationship cannot survive upon. When two people are in constant battle, they don't have the time to love, to accept, to embrace the differences and grow. When we are in a relationship with another human being, we are here to navigate our lives as individual Spirits on a Path of Light heading towards Enlightenment, while simultaneously navigating as a couple who consciously choose our partners based upon the upholding of one another higher good.
